Cronulla reject $70M star

Cronulla Sharks player Nicho Hynes has expressed his disappointment over the impending departure of his close friend and teammate, Daniel Atkinson. Atkinson will play his final season with the Sharks in 2025 before joining the St George Illawarra Dragons on a three-year deal. Hynes described Atkinson as a great person who is loved by everyone in the club. He acknowledged that losing Atkinson will be difficult, especially given his importance to the team. The two players have a strong bond, which was formed during their time together in the Melbourne Storm system. Atkinson has previously spoken about his gratitude for Hynes’ support and guidance throughout his rugby league career. The Sharks were unable to retain Atkinson due to salary cap constraints, with several other key players coming off-contract at the end of next season.
