In December 2024, Mahama, who served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was reelected.
On Monday, January 6, President Bola Tinubu leaves Abuja for Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana, where he would be present at President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration on January 7.
“The president-elect invited Tinubu to Accra after visiting the Nigerian leader earlier in December.” In a statement he signed on Sunday, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, disclosed this.
“President Tinubu to attend the inauguration of John Mahama, President-elect of Ghana,” reads the announcement.
Mahama was reelected in December 2024 after serving as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017.
He is President Nana Akuffo-Addo’s successor from 2017 to 2025.
“Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just as Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship,” Onanuga said.
Along with other African leaders, Tinubu will attend the ceremony in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and other senior government officials will accompany the President on his second trip to the Ghana.
