Following an earlier this week vehicle crash, an east London mosque is requesting that the authorities erect steel bollards or barriers outside the structure.
After striking a parked car, the automobile in the collision on Barking Road in Plaistow, opposite the Masjid Ibrahim and Islamic Centre, spun and crashed into a wall and gate.
Volunteer Zulfiqar Ahmed was inside the facility when the crash occurred. He stated that since 2010, there had been four car crashes near the building, with two of those incidents seriously damaging the mosque.
“Rolling out a 20mph speed limit across the borough” was the statement released by Newham Council.
‘Lose control’
A wall has also been damaged and several of the sliding gates outside the mosque have fallen off as a result of the incident on Monday.
After being taken to the hospital and treated, a guy was taken into custody on suspicion of driving violations.
Steel bollards, in Mr. Ahmed’s and the mosque’s opinion, would help to avert future collisions before “something fatal happens”.
“We need to push much harder with the local authority to install safety barriers or steel bollards in front of the mosque, which is located on a bend, to avoid a fatal accident,” he stated.
“People drive very fast and lose control at the bend, either because they’re intoxicated or they drive recklessly, especially late at night or early in the morning,” he continued.
“We are concerned that before something truly deadly occurs, we need to press the council a little harder to get something there.”

“Newham Council is rolling out a 20mph speed limit across the borough as part of broader measures like Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and Healthy School Streets in response to residents’ concerns,” a spokeswoman for the council stated.
“By lowering speeds on our roads, these initiatives seek to improve safety and encourage walking and cycling.”In addition to investigating the recent collision, the Met Police are responsible for enforcing speed restrictions.
