Nigerians threaten To Cancel Blacko

The Ghanaian artist who is currently the artist of the year was involved in an initiative dubbed “play Ghana Initiative ”. The popular musician together with some veteran artists including Reggie Rockstone, Samini and other Ghanaian artists took to the Ministry of Information and appealed to the government and the people of Ghana to limit foreign songs that are played in the country. They urge Ghanaians especially DJ’s and the media to play more of Ghana music in this festive season to help grow the music industry.

Some Nigerian Nigerians were not happy because they claim they stream black Sherrif’s songs than any other country including Ghana where he resides, his song “Kwaku the traveller “which he featured Burna boy from Nigeria top music charts in the country including Apple Music and Spotify in 2022. Nigerian songs are also streamed in Ghana mostly which some Nigerian bloggers perceive this is an intentional act to cancel Nigerian Music in Ghana. Based on what the concerned Ghanaian artists are preaching, they only want the media to play about 90 percent of Ghana songs which doesn’t seem harmful, they are only seeking to improve the Music Industry and give Ghanaian artist the opportunity to engage the people in their residence to stream most of their Music. Gyakie who is a Ghanaian artist recently posted the number of streams and the countries that streams her songs, she had Nigerians streaming most of her songs which is a concern.

In a recent twitter post black Sherif clarified that he only stated that Ghana Music should be played more and not to ban foreign music as speculated. He added he isn’t blaming anybody and that the “Play Ghana Initiative” is a collective effort of artists, DJ’s and the people of Ghana to push Ghana Music to the globe.

In a recent interview with Hitz FM, a Nigerian media personality Adosope stated that Black Sherif’s proposal to the government was made out of pure kindness. Adesope, one of the two MCs for the second Afro Nation event in Ghana, believes that the agenda that Smallgod, Reggie Rockstone, Samini, and a number of other musicians have put out is a positive start.

The media figure known by his stage name, Shopsydoo, discussed threats he had received from some Nigerian bloggers following Black Sherif’s remarks in an interview. Adesope appears to believe that the bloggers found Black Sherif to be an easy target. Additionally, he reaffirmed to Hitz Fm’s Andy Dosty that Black Sherif is too popular among Nigerian music fans to be placed on a blacklist.

The young Ghanaian artist is loved both in Ghana and Nigeria and around the world, his music encourages hard work and serves as inspiration to most of young artists , looking at how he was able to break through from releasing “Money” in 2020 and becoming an Artist of the year in 2023 and also wining the Best International Flow Award at the BET Awards, within the space of three years he made his dreams come true which shows his determination and passion for the music he does.

Highlife, reggae, and hip-hop are all blended together in Black Sherif’s music. In particular, UK drill, a subgenre of drill music and road rap, is a blend of these genres that was born in Brixton, London in 2012 and is influenced by U.S. Chicago styles that are frequently about violent and hedonistic criminal lifestyles. Twi, his native Akan dialect, is used in many of his lyrics. Rappers Kanye West, Travis Scott, Saint Jhn, Dave, Stormzy, J Hus, and Ghanaian musicians Mugeez and Sarkodie are among his musical influences, he has said.

Black Sheriff is a global asset who should be protected from media attacks and false accusations regarding the recent situation. His music is an inspiration and the public is expecting him to release another hit song before the year ends. We hope people especially ,Nigerians understand his message since this is an initiative to help Ghana Music.
