Is Asamoah Gyan the greatest football player in Ghana’s history?

There are questions as to whether Asamoah Gyan popularly known as baby jet is the greatest black star player. In Africa ,Ghana is one of the countries that have produced some great talent including Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Samuel Kuffour, Micheal Essien and many more.

The Ghanaian football maestro was born on November 22, 1985, in Accra Ghana. He had his primary education at the Seven Great Princess Academy in Dansoman, he continued to Accra Academy in 1999, where he completed in 2002.
After starting his career in 2003 with Ghana Premier League team Liberty Professionals, where he scored ten goals in sixteen games ,with his hard work and goal scoring abilities Serie A side Udinese signed him in 2003. Gyan spent three seasons with the Serie A club . During his two seasons on loan at Modena, where he scored fifteen goals in 53 league matches, and at Udinese, where he scored eleven goals in 39 league matches. In 2008, Gyan joined Ligue 1 club Rennes, where he scored fourteen goals in two seasons. In 2010, Gyan broke the club’s transfer record by joining Premier League club Sunderland, where he scored ten goals in thirty-four Premier League appearances over the course of two seasons.

After joining Al Ain on loan in 2011, Gyan went on to become the league’s top goalscorer, scoring 22 goals in 18 matches. The following season, Gyan joined Al Ain permanently and helped them win the League title, finishing as the league’s top goalscorer once again with an impressive 31 goals in 22 matches. Gyan finished top scorer for a record third time, with 29 goals in 26 matches. Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer of the Ghana national team, with 51 goals. He represented Ghana at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups; with six goals, he is the top African goalscorer in World Cup history. Gyan has also represented Ghana at the 2004 Summer Olympics and in seven Africa Cup of Nations—2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2017.In the 2010 FIFA World Cup Gyan showed an impressive performance including scoring a late heartwarming winning goal for Ghana against the United States which helped them qualify to the quarterfinals, unfortunately, Ghana failed to qualify from the quarterfinals against Uruguay, the moment Ghanaians will never forget was when the black stars was awarded a last minute penalty which would have taken Ghana to the semifinals and would have been the first African country to do so. Unfortunately, Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty and the Uruguayans eventually qualified through penalty shootouts. This doesn’t dispute the fact that Gyan was impressive during the competition and was the main man in the squad, scoring three goals in five appearances.

Asamoah Gyan was once married to Gifty and divorced her claiming Gifty was married to another man in Italy since 2002. He has three children Floyd Gyan, Raphael Gyan and Fredrick Gyan. Gyan has a private airline and other companies. He currently works with DSTV super sports. Gyan is one of the luxurious players in Ghana having a mansion with an estimated worth of $3 million. He has a Rolls Royce which costs $400,000 and a Mercedes Benz SLA AMG which costs around $250,000 and many more. He has an estimated networth of $23 million.

There’s no doubt Gyan has made a massive influence on Ghana football and his effort has encouraged young players to follow his footsteps. He’s definitely Ghana’s most successful striker considering his numbers and achievements he had a footballer. Questions of whether Ghana can have the replacement for the former player has been a major concern for Ghanaians after he retired.
