Man, 46, dies and others fighting for their life after car hits crowd in Sheffield

Man, 23, arrested on suspicion of murder and a 55-year-old is being held on suspicion of attempted murder

According to police, during the rioting in Sheffield, a car struck a throng of people, killing a 46-year-old man and injuring dozens others.

According to South Yorkshire police, emergency services were dispatched to College Close in the Burngreave neighbourhood of the city “following reports of violence and disorder.”

“As the call was underway, a car collided with a group of people,” the force continued.

A 46-year-old guy passed away at the site, several others were hurt, and one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Officers have notified and are assisting the man’s next of kin.
“We are now dealing with a murder investigation and understand the distress this will cause to those directly affected and the wider community,” stated DCI Andrew Knowles, senior investigating officer.


A 55-year-old male and a 23-year-old man have been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder, according to South Yorkshire police.

“We are doing CCTV and door-to-door enquiries while maintaining a sizable cordon around the area. We’ll be out on patrol all night to reassure people and talk to anyone who might know something or be worried.

Authorities stated that they were eager to speak with any neighbours who had dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage.

Anyone with information was asked to call 101 or submit an online report to the police.
