A teenager has died after a crash in Sheffield.
Police say they were called to St Mary’s Gate in the early hours of Monday, where a VW Golf had crashed into a barrier.
After being admitted to the hospital, an 18-year-old guy passed away.
A 15-year-old who had brain damage is still in the hospital.
A male, age 21, has been taken into custody in relation to the event.
According to a police statement:
“At 1:56 a.m. on Monday, we received reports of a single vehicle traffic collision. Following an accident at St Mary’s Gate involving a black VW Golf, the driver is said to have taken off.
“Monday saw the hospitalisation of an 18-year-old guy, who regrettably passed away today. Specialised officers have been notified and are providing help to his family.
Additionally, a 15-year-old kid was brought to the hospital with head injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening or catastrophic. For now, he is still in the hospital.
“A 21-year-old male who had a minor injury was taken into custody on suspicion of driving recklessly and causing serious harm. He was given police bail and freed while more investigation is conducted.
“Enquiries are ongoing and we are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the collision, or those with relevant dashcam footage, to come forward.”
