Daniel Kelly is expected to leave Celtic in the next few hours after the team accepted an early release add-on from Millwall that was nearly £400,000 in value.
Prior to joining the English Championship team in January, the 18-year-old signed a pre-contract with the Lions earlier this week. He will play the remainder of his contract in the Lowland League with Celtic B.
However, Kelly is in London, and it is understood by Lanarkshire Live Sport—who broke the news of his move south—that he will probably have a medical examination within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Millwall is hoping he can play in their Championship match on Saturday, which is away to Hull City.
The childhood Hoops supporter has had a difficult summer after turning down a new four-year contract with the Scottish champions, which is rumored to be worth £5,000 per week. As a result, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers barred him from the first team.
Millwall had anticipated that the East Kilbride ace would join in January, and it now appears that a cordial departure has been arranged.
On Tuesday, Lions head coach Neil Harris declared: “Dan has committed to join the team. He has signed the agreement after it was reached. January is when he officially joins us.
“We believe he is a young player with enormous potential. He is an excellent player. Dan won’t be someone that everyone should expect to join the team the moment he walks into the building.
