Local emergency services are working to figure out what caused a fire that has claimed the lives of two parents, and left their two children in hospital – with one said to be in a “very poorly condition”.
Following a home fire in Blackpool on Wednesday morning, two parents have passed away and their two children are being treated at the hospital.
One of the two hospitalised toddlers was reportedly in “very poorly condition,” according to Lancashire Police.
According to the force, at 2.39 in the morning, officers were dispatched to the family’s residence on Peter Street in Blackpool in response to reports of a fire, with the possibility that people were inside.
The Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and local police were involved in a “significant emergency response”.
A man in his 20s also passed away at Blackpool Victoria Hospital after a woman in her 20s was discovered dead at the site.
Regarding the cause of the fire, detectives say they are maintaining a “open mind”.
While police conduct their investigation, a “small number of properties” have been evacuated.
Officers asked members of the public to come forward with any pertinent information, but so far there have been no arrests.
“This incident has resulted in two people losing their lives, and my thoughts are with their loved ones at this extremely distressing time,” Chief Superintendent Mike Gladwin stated.
“I know this tragic news will be met with great sadness in the local community and people will want instant answers.”
“Yet, there are bereaved loved ones still trying to come to terms with this devastating news,” the top superintendent continued.
“With that in mind, I would ask for patience and that people avoid unhelpful and upsetting speculation.”
