A house fire in Blackpool killed a man and woman, and injured their two children.
Lancashire Police said the fire started on Peter Street in the town just before 02:40 BST.
Neighbours have reported a “wildfire” and “dangerous flames” at the home where the couple, both in their twenties, and their children lived.
Police reported that one of the youngsters is in “very poor condition” in the hospital.
The mother died at the scene, while the father was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
Kara-Marie Pearson, who lives on the block, described how her spouse saved a young boy from the flames by smashing a glass panel in the front door with a bat.
She claimed she heard a “almighty bang” and glanced out her bedroom window to see “the entire downstairs was literally in flames,” prompting the pair to rush out to help.
“You couldn’t even see it; it was pure orange,” she recalled, adding that it was “like a wildfire.”
She said once the boy had been pulled out of the house she had taken him to a neighbour’s house with “cuts and burns on him”.
“He’s only four years old. He fell to the ground,” she said.
“We could only get that little boy out. Mum, dad and the baby, we couldn’t get out – it was too dangerous.”
