We are conducting an independent inquiry into Lancashire Police’s role prior to a road traffic collision in Blackpool at approximately 9.40 p.m. on Saturday.
We were notified by the police shortly after the crash near Park Road and Condor Grove. IOPC investigators have began collecting information from the site, such as street CCTV and police vehicle data.
We understand that a Peugeot police van was responding to an emergency call when it ran through red lights and collided with a Hyundai Tucson driven by a citizen.
Three people in the automobile were taken to the hospital with injuries, two of them were seriously injured and have been imprisoned.
We launched an independent investigation at 10.35 a.m. today, and we intend to meet with the families of the injured victims as soon as possible to explain our part.
Our inquiry is in the early stages.
