A 54-year-old man had sustained injuries consistent with having been assaulted
A man was discovered dead in a park, leading to the suspicion of murder against two persons.
At 6:10 a.m. on Sunday, police received a report regarding a man’s wellbeing in Gateshead. They raced to the scene, where the 54-year-old man was pronounced dead in a grassy area off Shipcote Lane.
His wounds were consistent with having been attacked.
A thorough investigation is still underway, and Northumbria Police is considering the man’s death as suspected murder. While investigators do their investigations, there is still a greater police presence in the neighbourhood.
Currently detained by police, two men, ages 33 and 39, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
A tent has been set up in the wooded area behind Gateshead Central Library, which was roped off on Sunday. Investigations were being conducted on the location by forensics.
Detective Inspector Chris Deavin, who is part of the Major Investigation Team (MIT) of the force, stated: “We are determined to determine the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death as this is obviously a very serious incident.”
“We have a lot of open enquiries, and in the next few hours, we’ll be speaking with two suspects regarding the man’s killing.
“I want to appreciate everyone who has already come forward with information to help with our inquiry, and I would like to encourage anyone else who feels they know something to get in contact, regardless of how small they think it may be.
“Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this terrible time, and we will use every tactic available to us to ensure effective justice is brought against anybody found to be involved.”
Northumbria Police are asking anyone with information that can help with the inquiry to get in touch with them.
