One person died, and five others were sent to the hospital.
One person was murdered and five others were hospitalised following a violent incident on the M65 motorway. At around 3:37 a.m., three vehicles collided at Burnley’s junction 9. It is now closed in both directions between junctions 8 for Hapton and 10 for Burnley, Lancashire.
The incident is causing major delays for morning commuters, with diversions leading to packed local routes like the A671 through Padiham and the A6068. Lancashire Police have warned that the closure is expected to persist “for quite some time” and informed motorists via Twitter: “Please be advised that the M65 is now closed in both directions from J8 to J10 due to a road traffic collision. We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time whilst we make sure the road is safe. We’ll update you here once the road is open again.”
National Highways verified the closure and the presence of diversions, advising drivers to allow additional time for travel across Lancashire.
They stated that the M65 in Lancashire is closed in both directions between J8 (Hapton) and J10 (Burnley) owing to a significant road traffic collision. Lancashire Police and emergency services are presently on scene.”
