On an Isle of Wight beach, the body of a pilot whale washing up has been found.
On Saturday morning, walkers on a West Wight beach discovered the whale.
The whale was moved early on Sunday morning during low tide after a Saturday recovery attempt was abandoned due to high tide.
The whale was scheduled to be taken to the mainland later on Sunday, according to the Isle of Wight Council.
On Saturday, efforts were made to keep the injured whale moist and upright in the hopes of saving it.
Paul Blackley, a local who attempted to assist the whale at the beach, reported that the whale was deemed “too poorly and had to be put to sleep” by the veterinarian.
The Cetacean Stranding Investigation Project “will be investigating this sad stranding alongside the two others in Essex this week,” according to the authorities, which claimed it would be passed to them.
“An investigator from The National Zoological Society will keep the council updated on the outcome of the investigation,” a council spokeswoman continued.
