POLICE PROBE CONTINUE OF FATAL CRASH WITH SCENE RECONSTRUCTION

As part of their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding a tragic crash that killed a woman in her 70s back in June, police closed a Bembridge road today (Wednesday) in order to reconstruct part of the incident.

The Roads Policing Unit, situated on the mainland, has been testing the brakes on a trailer that is comparable in size to the one that was involved in the fatal incident on June 8th on The Downs, close to Knighton.

A taxi heading in the other direction was struck head-on by a trailer carrying a robotic cutting machine that had come loose from the Land Rover pulling it. The cab driver suffered severe injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital, while the fare-paying female passenger passed away at the site.

Sandown Road, which is close to Bembridge Airport, is currently partially blocked for reconstruction. While towing a trailer quickly, a police car performed a number of tests to support the continuing investigations.

The route was chosen since it was thought to be more peaceful to close than The Downs and appropriate for the tests.

According to

Isle of Wight & Hampshire Constabulary, there are currently no updates available.
