Reckless driver kills man in a tragic incident in Portslade

An unlicensed van driver has admitted to killing a 44-year-old motorbike rider from Portslade.

Delshad Ajeeb Aziz, 26, pleaded guilty at Hove Crown Court yesterday to causing death through careless driving.

He collided with Anthony David Edney of Thornhill Way, Portslade, in June last year on Old Shoreham Road, Hove, near the junction with The Drive.

Mr. Edney was transferred to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where he died.

Aziz, of New Road East, Northam, Portsmouth, also admitted to driving without a license and insurance.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday.

PC Andy Slark, a Sussex Police forensic collision investigator located in Shoreham, looked into the crash.

He stated: “Once again, a life has been lost due to a lack of attentiveness.

“Mr Edney was simply driving down the road when the offender pulled out into his path, causing a head-on collision.

“This was a tragedy which could so easily have been avoided.”
