M2 blocks road after lorry catch fire and two died

Traffic is building in the area

Delays are increasing along the M2 in Strood this morning owing to an ongoing vehicle fire. The event occurred on the A228 Sundridge Hill, between Roman Way and Junction 2 of the M2.

The fire was first reported about 10.45 a.m., and as a result, the road is blocked in both directions. Inrix, a traffic monitoring firm, reports that traffic congestion is increasing in the area.

It is unclear whether any injuries occurred. KentLive has contacted the relevant emergency services for more information.

The most recent Inrix update reports: “A228 Sundridge Hill in both directions blocked, queueing traffic due to lorry fire between Roman Way and M2 J2 (Strood / Rochester).”
