Live update: Three killed and five seriously injured in Delaware tragic crash involving children

An incident on Christiana and Airport roads in New Castle, Delaware, killed a girl and her mother and injured six others, according to state police.

In a multi-vehicle incident in Delaware late Wednesday night, a mother and daughter were murdered, and six others were injured, including the woman’s four other children.

The mother and daughter were identified as Karisma Stevens and Zamiyah Stevens, respectively.

The collision happened around 11:20 p.m. on Christiana Road in New Castle. Stevens and her five children were in a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan that had come to a halt at a traffic light in the eastbound lanes of Christiana Road near the intersection with Airport Road.

At the same time, a 2022 Kia K5 was racing west on Christiana Road, according to investigators. According to authorities, as the Dodge approached the crossing to exit onto Airport Road, the Kia drove westbound on Christiana, entered the intersection, and failed to stop at the red light.

According to investigators, the Kia then impacted the Dodge’s right side, causing it to spin and flip over. According to authorities, the incident led the Kia to cross a cement median and collide with a 2020 Hyundai Tuscon that was going to turn right into Christiana from Airport Road.

Surveillance footage from a nearby petrol station shows one of the vehicles involved in the collision slipping and rolling over as sparks fly.
