Fatal crash sparks calls for improved road safety in Gloucester & Cheltenham

Four men lost their lives after their automobile crashed into a tree on a “nightmare” road, prompting residents to demand immediate improvements.
While on patrol on Sunday at around 2:00 BST, Gloucestershire Police reported that they came across a black Renault Clio on the A436 at Ullenwood, close to Cheltenham.
The men’s next of kin have now been notified by the officers. The Gloucestershire County Council declared that there would be an examination.
Ann Townsend, 81, has lived along the road for her whole life. “Every six months, somebody goes through the fence,” she exclaimed.

The council is receiving requests to lower the speed limit from 50 mph, deploy speed cameras, and enhance signs on the route.
Paul Hodgkinson, a county councillor, stated: “A safer atmosphere can be achieved through certain actions.

“You have a very windy road, a lot of traffic and junctions coming onto the road where visibility is quite compromised.”For this reason, we believe it would be wise to reduce the speed limit.

“Those of us who live locally have repeatedly raised our concerns about safety along this road,” he stated.
Reducing the foliage and altering the layouts of the intersections, he said, would also “really help”.
Mrs. Townsend called the road a nightmare.
She stated: “[I’ve raised concerns] all the time, but nothing is ever done.”The events are quite distressing.”

“It would be wrong to jump to any conclusions during an ongoing investigation,” a Gloucestershire County Council spokesperson stated. “As with any incident of this kind, we will conduct a review along with other agencies and take the necessary action where needed.”
Anyone with information regarding the crash or dashcam footage should get in touch with the police, according to Superintendent Roddy Gosden.
