Witnesses enjoying up the sun at Blackpool beach feared a woman had died after falling through a breach at the resort’s Central Pier. She was brought to the hospital for her injuries, and the pier has been closed.

A woman was hurt and brought to the hospital yesterday after falling through a significant piece of the Blackpool Pier. Witnesses on the beach initially believed she had dead. Lancashire Police said that a woman fell through the wooden structure late on Tuesday afternoon and was being treated in hospital. The catastrophe occurred less than two months after a young child was left in a vegetative state following a flip off the Margate stone pier that went horribly wrong.
Piers, which are frequently wooden constructions spanning hundreds of metres, were first built as landing docks for pleasure steamers when the British holiday fever took hold. Visitors now utilise them as vantage places to enjoy the scenery because they stand several metres above sea level.
