The death of a man in Newcastle town centre is not being treated as suspicious, say Staffordshire Police.

It was reported to Ironmarket, Newcastle-under-Lyme, by police and paramedics.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer arrived to find police providing first aid to a man who had suffered a serious injury,” a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said.

“The man was in serious condition when the ambulance crew arrived, so they moved him immediately to provide emergency care before transporting him under blue lights to Royal Stoke University Hospital for more trauma care. Sadly, the man passed away in the hospital not long after.”

The man was in his 30s, and a Staffordshire Police spokesperson further stated that his leg was seriously injured.

The police said: “His death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner.”

The man was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later (West Midlands Ambulance Service).
