His female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and the driver of the other car, a man in his 50s from Bagshot, was injured
A 54-year-old driver from Yateley died in a head-on incident in Weymouth and his passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second car involved in the crash, a man in his 50s from Bagshot, was injured.
According to Dorset Police, the collision occurred at approximately 11.40 a.m. on the A354 Weymouth Relief Road. A white Mercedes and a white Nissan Micra were involved in the collision.
The driver of the Micra, a 54-year-old Hampshire resident from Yateley, very regrettably suffered extremely critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to a police statement.
“An additional passenger in the vehicle had potentially fatal injuries; she was sent to Southampton General Hospital via air ambulance. The coroner has been alerted, as well as their families.
“The driver of the Mercedes, a man from Bagshot in Surrey and aged in his 50s, sustained minor injuries.”
Police say the road was closed between the Jurassic and Stadium roundabouts to allow emergency services to treat the casualties. It reopened at just before 5.30pm.
“At this very difficult time, our thoughts are with the man and woman’s family,” said Dorset traffic section police sergeant Lee Savage.
“I am aware that there were other cars in the vicinity when the collision occurred, and I would want to ask anyone who saw the incident or the way either vehicle was driven before the crash to get in touch with Dorset Police right once.
“Any drivers who had dash cams installed while they were in the vicinity and may have recorded material that might be helpful to our investigation are also welcome to contact me.
“Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to the general people for their understanding and tolerance throughout the road closure. This made it possible for us to tend to the victims and thoroughly investigate the area.”
