Two men died after their automobiles crashed on a Shropshire A-road.
A Volkswagen Passat and a Nissan Almera collided on the A53 near Market Drayton in the early morning of Saturday.
According to West Mercia Police, the drivers of both vehicles, a man in his 40s and a man in his 20s, were declared dead at the site, between the Tern Hill roundabout linking to the A41 and the island on the western border of Market Drayton known locally as the ‘Muller island’.
A passenger in the Volkswagen was rushed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital with injuries “not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing” following the incident around midnight.
Following the crash, the route was closed until late Saturday afternoon.
A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “When ambulance staff arrived, they located three patients, all men.
“Sadly, it became clear that two of them, the drivers of both automobiles, could not be saved, and they were pronounced dead on the site.
“The third man, a passenger in one of the cars, was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital.”
Police investigating the crash would like to speak to anybody who saw the collision or either of the cars prior to it happening.
