A huge emergency services presence including an air ambulance was called to the scene
A woman in her 70s has died after being hit by a car on a quiet street in Bolton. Yesterday at around 2:30 pm, emergency personnel including fire, police, and paramedics were dispatched to the site on Melbourne Grove in Horwich, accompanied by an air ambulance.
A automobile struck a 72-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the street. She was unfortunately proclaimed dead a short time later.
A 68-year-old woman has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by hazardous driving and has been taken into police custody to be questioned.
There was a major emergency response at the scene following the collision, with Melbourne Grove taped off by officers. An air ambulance landed on a nearby cricket ground.
Ambulances and police vehicles also lined adjoining Victoria Road following the incident. An evidence screen was erected with the road remaining taped off for a number of hours for Serious Collision Investigators to work at the scene.
Police Constable Thomas Johnson said; “Firstly, our thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who sadly lost her life in this collision. We will continue to support them throughout our investigation, ensuring they receive the necessary care.
“Our investigation is still in the early stages, and I would urge anyone with information or detail that could assist our investigation should do so at the earliest opportunity.”
A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We received a call reporting a road traffic collision following a call at 14.15. We have attended with an ambulance, air ambulance, advanced paramedic, response vehicle and operational commander.”
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed they sent a number of resources to the incident.
