Totton man jailed for shoplifting from in stores

A Totton man, age 21, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison for multiple shoplifting offenses.

Without a fixed address, Shane Wright was found guilty of shoplifting in Totton between June 2023 and January of this year.

In addition to his incarceration sentence, Wright has been mandated to make restitution of £332.

It comes after incidents of shoplifting at Tesco Express on Nutshalling Close, Calmore, and Morrisons Daily on Water Lane. It also comes after additional shopliftings and an unpaid robbery from Morrisons on Spruce Drive.

On Wednesday, October 4, Wright once stole goods from Morrisons Daily valued at £125. Before that, on Tuesday, July 4, he had stolen meat from the Morrisons on Spruce Drive worth £74.20.

He did not pay for the £87.23 worth of fuel that he purchased from Morrisons on Friday, August 13.

Wright was sentenced at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, February 9th, after entering a guilty plea to all charges against him.

New Forest Acting Inspector Rob Blake expressed his satisfaction with the latest success, saying, “I am really pleased with this outcome, and to see another shoplifter placed behind bars.”

“I hope that this outcome demonstrates once more how seriously we take shoplifting in the New Forest and how committed we are to combating it.

The police departments in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are aware of the serious effects that this kind of crime has on both our companies and the larger community.

We understand that reporting crimes to us requires a large amount of time from businesses, so we want to make it easier for them to do so.

To help with this process, the neighborhood teams in the new Forest have developed special “shoplifting packs” for businesses.

As a store owner or employee, do keep reporting any instances of shoplifting to us.
