An accident blackspot junction has been closed following the third deadly crash in the last six months.
On Thursday, an 80-year-old woman died on the westbound carriageway at the Plusha junction near Launceston.
National Highways, police, and Cornwall Council quickly issued an emergency order to close the junction, reduce the speed limit, and restrict right-turn traffic movements.
Bosses revealed measures to increase the safety of the intersection.
According to Ed Halford, National Highways route manager, driving safety is “our number one priority”.
He stated that in September, they announced intentions to implement “safety measures along the A30 between Kennards House and Five Lanes”.
“As part of the safety package, we’ve been liaising closely with our police and local authority partners to identify a number of interventions aimed at improving safety and reducing the number of incidents.”
According to Ben Maguire, MP for North Cornwall, a “safer solution must be found”.
He said, “That’s enough. There has been a lengthy history of failure on this topic, and now, more than ever, we must work together to solve this accident blackspot.
“We need a graded junction, and we need to get everyone around the table to find a long-term solution.”
Adrian Parsons, councillor for Altarnun and Stoke Climsland, stated that “immediate changes” would be implemented and urged people to “please take care out there and drive safely”.
