The unfortunate loss of a spitfire pilot yesterday led to the cancellation of a flypast, as confirmed by a military display in Hampshire today.
The planned flyover of a Spitfire plane on Saturday has been cancelled, according to the Overlord Show in Denmead. It was scheduled to fly over the area at approximately 3:50 p.m., but it has been cancelled while an investigation is conducted in the wake of yesterday’s spitfire plane disaster in Lincolnshire, which claimed the life of the pilot.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) of the Royal Air Force was scheduled to perform the flypast. But while they look into what happened when one of their planes crashed, they have grounded their fleet.
The Overlord Show said on Facebook: “The BBMF has grounded the whole fleet while investigations are conducted and out of respect for the pilot’s family following the tragic news of the Spitfire crash in Lincolnshire yesterday.
“Therefore, today’s planned Spitfire flyover is cancelled. The cast extends its deepest sympathies to the family.
