A two-car crash has claimed the life of a driver and left a passenger in Stoke-on-Trent’s main hospital. Police, firefighters, paramedics were called to the crash on Rawnsley Road, in Staffordshire, on Sunday night.

An air ambulance landed as part of the emergency services response.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “When crews arrived, they discovered two cars engaged in a significant collision. The driver of one vehicle, a guy, was in critical condition. The crew worked together to provide trauma treatment to the man, but nothing could be done to save him, and he was pronounced dead on the scene. A woman in the same car received trauma care at the site for possibly serious injuries before being transported by land ambulance to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment. The driver and passenger in the second car were reported as walking wounded. Both were released at the scene.”

The crash occurred between a green Vauxhall Mokka and a black Mercedes.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses. They should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 594 of July 21.
