Terrifying crash claimed many lives with two kids

The local MP has characterised an incident between a car and a motorbike that killed four people and two children as “devastating news”.

On Sunday afternoon, security minister Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley North, responded to an accident on the A61 between Staincross, Barnsley, and Newmillerdam, Wakefield.

Mr Jarvis stated on X: “Devastating news. My sincere sympathies to the families and friends of those who have sadly died.”

West Yorkshire Police said emergency services were notified of the incident at 3.54pm.

A man, a wife, and two girls were killed on a country road near the village of Mapplewell.

Another man and woman, the motorcyclist and pillion passenger, were killed in the crash.

The road between Shaw Lane and Warren Lane has been closed and will likely remain so for some time, according to police.

Superintendent Alan Travis of Halesowen District Police stated, “This is an absolutely tragic incident that has resulted in the loss of six lives.”

“Our thoughts go out to the families of those who have died who we are working with to provide support at this time.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to phone West Yorkshire Police on 101.
