As things stand, the Sunderland defender’s future is unclear.
Henry Fieldson, a man from Sunderland, has gone on trial with Grimsby Town.
The defender signed a one-year contract, his first professional deal, with the Black Cats last summer; however, it expires during the current window, allowing Fieldson to sign a new deal elsewhere. When the Wearsiders announced their retained list in May, they did, however, mention that the player had been offered a new contract.
Should the defender depart, Sunderland would be required under FA regulations to provide compensation because they were instrumental in Fieldson’s development throughout his youth. If the two clubs couldn’t agree on a small charge, this would be settled by a tribunal. Nevertheless, if a new agreement with Sunderland is reached, Fieldson might potentially go out on loan.
The 19-year-old was last week at Scottish club Queen’s Park, north of the border, when the young defender was supposedly being evaluated. But Hume came south this week to play with Denver Hume, a former Sunderland player, in a Grimsby Town game as a trialist.
In the preseason, Grimsby defeated Boston United 2-0, and throughout the match, the team gave Fieldson a close examination. As their preparations continue, Grimsby’s next game is against North East non-league team South Shields.
In other news, Ellis Taylor, who was released by the Black Cats at the end of the previous season, has joined Harrogate Town after previously playing for Sunderland’s under-21 team. After making an impression during his trial, the versatile player signed a two-year contract with the League Two team.
