An inquest heard that the diligent father, who passed away after falling from a hotel balcony in St Ives, Cornwall, had a history of mental health issues and was under pressure from his long work hours.
On August 10 of last year, Adrian Moon, 56, fell to his death from the Pedn Olva Hotel balcony onto the rocks below. He was going to return home the next morning after spending the previous day on vacation with his wife and a few friends, according to the inquest held at Cornwall Coroner’s Court in Truro today, April 9.
Adrian, a Nottingham man, had gone to the bar to get a drink, and his wife, who was by herself at the time, was in their room preparing dinner. A woman in the bar saw him fall; she said he seemed to “lean too far” on the rooftop terrace railings and lost balance.
The inquest heard that Mr. Moon had a history of mental health issues but was hesitant to seek treatment for them. She claimed that regardless of his personal struggles, he “worked so hard” and would “never say no or let anyone down.” She also described him as diligent, trustworthy, and devoted.
She described how the father of two had been working longer hours and, more often than not, just taking his occasional Sunday off from work in recent times. She added that he frequently got “worked up” over different health problems and symptoms but would frequently go without medical attention, and that he had started to worry about money and being able to buy a new car.
The couple, who had taken annual vacations to St Ives since their daughters were small, traveled there the week before he passed away. In previous years, they had stayed at the Pedn Olva Hotel. Adrian was anxious about the holiday, fearing he was going to have a “breakdown.” He felt better about going after discussing his plans to take a vacation with his doctor before departing.
While on vacation, Adrian’s spouse informed him that they had received a text regarding a potential new hire who would be taking over some of Adrian’s weekend duties, but they had decided against accepting the job offer. When Adrian admitted to his wife that he”couldn’t do it anymore,” she said he was
