Sadly, a fatality has resulted from a serious three-vehicle collision that happened this afternoon on the Tasman Highway near St Helens.
Just before 3:30 p.m., there was a collision on the Tasman Highway near St. Helens, prompting the dispatch of police and emergency personnel.
After being brought to the St. Helens District Hospital, a 62-year-old Pyengana resident during her stay and four others passed away.
In addition, a 61-year-old Pyengana resident who was riding in the same car was taken to the St Helens District Hospital before being sent to the Launceston General Hospital for additional treatment. It is not thought that his wounds are life-threatening.
A 28-year-old St. Helens resident who was operating the second vehicle was also transported to the St. Helens District Hospital for minor injuries.
The 43-year-old Sandy Bay resident who was operating the third car escaped unharmed from the collision.
During this trying time, our thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones and family.
