Following a terrifying crash in Oldham, one man is dead and the other is fighting for his life.
At approximately 4 p.m. yesterday, officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were alerted to reports of an accident involving a motorbike and a pedestrian on Ripponden Road in Sholver.
A man in his 20s was brought to the hospital with potentially fatal injuries, while a man in his 70s was declared dead at the spot.
“We were called to a road traffic collision between a motorbike and a pedestrian on Ripponden Road, Oldham at around 4pm on 23 July,” a police spokesperson stated.
“We discovered two individuals in serious condition when we arrived at the site with colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS).
Regretfully, a man in his seventies was declared deceased on the spot. The second man, a twentysomething, was brought to the hospital with potentially fatal wounds.”
Due to extensive road closures, officers yesterday asked the public to stay away from the area while investigations are being conducted.
“Just before 5 p.m. yesterday, July 23, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Ripponden Road, Oldham,” a GMFRS spokeswoman continued.
“A single Oldham fire engine arrived on the scene of the motorbike incident very fast.
“Crews swiftly reached the scene, where a man had tragically passed away. In order to make the car and the surrounding area safe, crews collaborated with Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to transport a second guy to the hospital.”
“Everyone at GMFRS is sending their condolences to the man’s family and friends who lost their loved one,” they said.
“Firefighters spent about 45 minutes at the scene.”
