As they are ready to return to League Two, Port Vale is looking for a few more fresh faces. They only spent a year in League One before being demoted, having placed among the bottom four together with Fleetwood Town, Carlisle United, and Cheltenham Town.
When the Cumbrians were in the fourth division previously, they won the play-offs. They earned promotion at Wembley by defeating Stockport County on penalties.
In an interview with the News & Star before of their friendly match against Rochdale this coming weekend, their manager Paul Simpson expressed his desire to bring in a few more players. He said: “After a few days of rest for the players, we’re now getting ready for Rochdale and we’re cranking it up.”
“The games against Gateshead and Rochdale will be good tests, and the Stockport match will round off the schedule. Hopefully, a few more bodies will be in by then, and we’ll be set to go.
Carlisle United cut ties with a few players following the end of the last campaign.
Josh Emmanuel, Jordan Gibson, Tomas Holy, Paul Huntington, Max Kilsby, Sean Maguire, Kai Nugent and Corey Whelan were all released to clear up space and funds in their ranks.
Meanwhile, Terry Ablade, Jokull Andresson, Fin Back, Jack Diamond and Josh Kayode all went back to their parent clubs after their loans expired.
Port vale’s recruitment last year didn’t work out in the end and they will hope their arrival this time around will settle in better.
They have brought in Archie Davies, Cameron Harper, Ethan Robson, Charlie Wyke, Terrell Thomas, Aaron Hayden and Jude Smith to bolster their ranks, with more on the way.
It is yet to be known who the top flight player they are trying to sign is at this moment in time.
