Police have named the mother and daughter who were killed in a horrific crash in East Ayrshire last night.

Rebecca Hill and her daughter, Arianna Aliu, were involved in a single-car accident on the A76 near the junction with the B713, between Catrine and Auchinleck, around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The six-year-old schoolgirl was pronounced dead at the scene and her 32-year-old mum was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where she died a short time later.

Emergency services attended the crash, which involved a White VW Passat and the road was closed for around seven hours for investigation work to take place.

Inspector Kenny Malaney stated, “Our sympathies are with everyone affected by this awful occurrence during this exceedingly trying time. Rebecca and Arianna’s family is receiving assistance from specialist cops.

“We would like to thank the members of the public who stopped to aid and called the emergency services.

“Extensive investigations are underway to determine what happened, and we are asking anyone who observed the incident or was in the area at the time to contact us.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who have may dashcam footage showing the Passat prior to the crash.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident 2596 of 24 September, 2024.”
