An 18-year-old died on the scene, while two others were injured in the early-morning tragedy.

A youngster was murdered when a car collided with a tree on one of Birmingham’s busiest highways, police say. According to the West Midlands Police, an 18-year-old was killed in a crash on the A45 Coventry Road in Yardley, which also injured two people.

The victim was inside a Hyundai i20 that was involved in a collision near the Berkeley Road junction just after 6 a.m. today, Friday. He died at the spot.

Two other guys were injured, although their conditions were not life-threatening. Police are looking for witnesses to the incident, which left the road partially closed until this afternoon.

A police spokesperson said: “We’re looking for information after a man was killed when his car collided with a tree in Yardley this morning.” We were summoned to Coventry Road, at the junction with Berkeley Road, soon after 6 a.m.

“An 18-year-old man from the Hyundai i20 was critically hurt and pronounced deceased on the scene. Our sympathies are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Another man in the car had minor injuries, and another is still in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“A portion of the road remains closed while we conduct investigations, but we expect the highway to be completely operational in the coming hours.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity at the time and hasn’t previously contacted us. We’d particularly like to speak with anyone who has dashcam footage. You can reach us via Live Chat on our website or by phoning 101 and quoting log 590 of today. Alternatively, contact detectives directly at SCIU@westmidlands.police.uk.”
