James Tavernier and Connor Goldson trade bids will be taken into consideration by the Rangers, according to Philippe Clement.
In an interview with Rangers Review on July 14, the manager was questioned over the captain and vice-captain’s summer plans in light of ongoing rumours that they may quit Ibrox due to interest from Saudi Arabia and England [The Sun, 30 June].
Even though Clement insisted that many of those rumours were “fake news,” he acknowledged that the Rangers will take offers for any player this summer, including the seasoned defence tandem, and that they won’t be playing as much in the 2024–2025 season.
“I have read a lot of things that you say are totally untrue, and there is a lot of speculation in Glasgow,” Clement remarked.
False information. However, that comes with living in Glasgow. You can’t respond to every false report because that will occupy all of your time.
“They won’t play sixty games in the upcoming season, and the conjecture surrounding them is no different from that which can be said about any player.” For us, it is the same.
“We’ll see and talk if someone shows up with the appropriate amount of money. However, in order to make it better, you must constantly observe, replace anyone needed, and have enough cash on hand to do so. If not, it is also useless. In this sense, it involves striking a balance.
Rangers transfer news finally drops from Ibrox
The club have been preparing for a big summer throughout the transfer window and even before it started, and they’re following through.
So far six players have left the club and six have joined, but there are expected to be several more deals done before the season begins [Four Lads, 11 July], and that means people will leave too. Clement is trying to make Ibrox an environment where every player has to earn their shirt. Jack Butland is deemed as irreplaceable and that makes sense because of his performances last season.
However, nobody’s status is guaranteed in a season where the club underperformed overall. Players vying for a spot on the team benefit from increased competitiveness and value in training, and it also communicates to all that the manager takes business seriously.
For the Rangers, a new era has long been necessary to return to the top of the mountain and dispel the notion that they are merely a competitive team.
In other Rangers news, a transfer decision has been made, and the team has established their asking price for Jack Butland.
