Person dies after Wantage incident causing London Paddington delays today

A person has died after an incident near Wantage which is causing major delays at London Paddington.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. today, a casualty was reported on the tracks in the Wantage area.

Shortly after officers and paramedics arrived on the scene, the subject was declared deceased.

A case will be produced for the coroner, and the incident is not being considered suspicious.

While the situation was being handled, all lines between Swindon and Didcot Parkway were shut down.

There are 90-minute delays between London Paddington and stations like Penzance, Bristol Temple Meads, and Cardiff Central, according to a warning from National Rail.

Although the lines have now reopened, there will likely be significant delays between these stations until 3 p.m.

“Officers were called to the line near Wantage at around 8.28am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks,” a British Transport Police spokesperson stated.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
