NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) — A 41-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning on State Street in New Haven.
The incident occurred around 2:18 a.m. when New Haven Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of 1455 State Street after receiving reports of a pedestrian being hit.
Upon arrival, first responders located the victim, identified as Luis Timbila, in the roadway.
Despite efforts to provide medical aid, Timbila succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been notified.
Police said the vehicle involved in the crash did not remain on scene.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a black Honda Civic with front-end damage, traveling north on State Street toward Hamden, followed by a red Honda Civic.
“It’s crazy, stupid for them to do something like that. They should change the traffic signals somehow because the traffic is crazy here,” said Ed Morr, who lives on State Street.
The New Haven Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the incident.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any information to come forward.
Tips can be reported to detectives at 203-946-6304 or through the department’s anonymous tip-line at 866-888-8477.
