Oldham fatal car crash that left witnesses terrified

Atif Zaheer was pronounced dead at the scene on Greenacres Road, Oldham.

Neighbours rushed to assist a young man who was murdered in a ‘horrific’ automobile accident in Oldham on Sunday night. The victim, Atif Zaheer, 26, died after a car collided with several other vehicles on Greenacres Road around 11.40 p.m.

Greater Manchester Police believe the automobile collided with two stationary vehicles, causing it to topple. Despite the greatest efforts of rescue personnel, Atif was tragically declared dead on the site.

Two men, both in their twenties, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death via unsafe driving. They remain in police custody awaiting questioning.

A spokeswoman for Rochdale Coroner’s Court told the M.E.N that a file in the name of Atif Zaheer was referred to their office on Monday (June 3).

Eileen Shaw, who lives in nearby Derwent Walk, claimed she heard a ‘horrific sound’ around 11.30 p.m. “It was unbelievable,” she told The Manchester Evening News. “When I came down, everyone was on the street. Everyone was running out; it was chaotic.”

Ms Shaw also reported seeing a forensic tent in the middle of the road shortly after, as emergency personnel worked on the area. “I can’t believe it, it’s a shame,” she said.

Ghous Ghoulam, another resident of Derwent Walk, called the sight a ‘disaster’. He stated that he saw a man lying in the road while people provided him first aid.

I heard a bang and car alarms. “It was a loud sound,” he stated. “There were maybe 70-80 people who came out onto the street. One automobile sat on top of another, and the Range Rover had rolled over. It is a disaster. It’s quite sad.”

Greenacres Road was closed beside the cemetery on Monday morning (June 3). Witnesses are being requested to come forward, as police investigations continue.
