The Reds have added six new players to their roster this summer, though not quite as much as they have done in the previous two summer windows.
Jota Silva, Carlos Miguel, Nikola Milenkovic, Eric da Silva Moreira, and Elliot Anderson have all registered and participated in the preseason.
Marko Stamenic was the first of the six, but he has already left for Greece to join a season-long loan with Olympiacos, and he might play against Forest tonight.
Nonetheless, the transfer industry is far from finished, and in all fairness, a new connection has just surfaced.
Nottingham Forest want Vinicius Souza from Sheffield United
Brazilian publication RTI Esporte has reported that Forest is one of the teams interested in midfielder Souza from the Blades.
It’s been rumoured that South Yorkshire might profit from Souza if a £18 million deal is reached this summer after a vigorous recruitment campaign.
After a miserable campaign, Souza only joined United in the summer and quickly established himself as a regular member of the squad as they achieved an immediate return to the Championship.
A number of European clubs are now interested in the midfielder, who appeared in all but two of United’s Premier League games last season.
According to the report, Lyon and Milan are also interested in signing the defensive midfield player, while Fulham is offering more Premier League interest.
Who is Vinicius Souza?
The Brazilian talent made his Premier League debut last summer when he signed with the Blades from Lommel in Belgium for an unknown price.
He joined them in 2020 after leaving Brazilian team Flamengo, however he was later loaned to KV Mechelen and Espanyol in La Liga.
Given how bad Sheffield United was last season, it’s reasonable to suggest that Souza, a midfielder, wasn’t very good at defence. However, the numbers don’t lie.
Who Scored reveals that he was the third-best player in the division previous season with 125 tackles made in that specific area.
In terms of successful tackles, he trailed behind Joao Gomes of Wolves and former star Joao Palhinha of Fulham.
In addition, the report lists his strengths as aerial duels, ball interception, and blocks, noting that he enjoys tackling but frequently fouls out.
Forest should only swoop for Souza if midfielder exits
Fenerbahce is rumoured to be interested in Ibrahim Sangare, and Nicolas Dominguez has been linked to a summer transfer to Galatasaray, albeit that deal would be costly.
At Manchester United, Ryan Yates recently inked a new, long-term contract, while Danilo is being considered.
This connection intrigues us greatly, but we can’t help but question if the Brazilian media chose to include Forest because they are aware of the club’s close ties to the country.
It would only make sense to sign Souza if one of the aforementioned midfielders were to leave the City Ground this summer.
Right now, it feels like a lot of money for a guy that wouldn’t be selected first in his position, so it appears like we will have to wait and see with this one.
