Before moving to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea target Joao Felix has now finished his medical, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.
The Blues have had a busy summer transfer window, and as the deadline draws nearer, Todd Boehly’s recruiting staff isn’t stopping their spending. The next player who is expected to walk through the door is Joao Felix, who was previously on loan for six months from the West London club.
Reporter Thomas for Sky Sports has now stated that Felix has completed his medical, and a deal is currently being finalized to move to Chelsea.
“Joao Felix has finished his Chelsea medical and is now finalising his transfer. Chelsea have agreed a permanent deal worth up to £46.3m with Atletico Madrid, which means Conor Gallagher’s transfer to the Spanish club is back on. Felix is understood to be joining Chelsea for a £42m fixed fee, plus £4.3m in add-ons, which could make the transfer eventually worth in excess of £46m.”
This week, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Chelsea was getting close to signing Joao Felix, with negotiations nearing their conclusion and a verbal agreement nearly complete. After his loan move back to Stamford Bridge in 2023, the Portuguese international is now scheduled to return after the Blues finalized personal terms with him.
Ever since he was left off of Chelsea’s squad for the weekend, Raheem Sterling—who is just as versatile as Felix—has been strongly linked to leaving the team. Felix might thus be considered as his successor, which will free up Conor Gallagher to pursue other opportunities.
Gallagher is an academy produce, so even though losing him will be somewhat of a blow to Enzo Maresca, in terms of profit and sustainability calculations, he will represent pure profit on the books. Addressing their financial situation will be crucial, as they have been spending a significant amount of money over the past few years.
Along with Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah is another academy graduate that Chelsea may choose to sacrifice in order to raise money this summer. The Athletic claims that Chalobah is a player who may be leaving because many teams are interested in signing him.
According to the report, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United are some of the teams reportedly considering a move for the English center back. Another player left out of Maresca’s team to play Manchester City is Chalobah.
