Motorcyclist killed in fatal crash as police appeal for witnesses

A 59-year-old male was certified dead on the spot.

Police are investigating after a motorcyclist died in a major road accident. On Sunday, July 28, emergency personnel were summoned to the location on Ashby Road in Tamworth. An air ambulance also landed nearby.

When resources arrived, an off-duty medical staff member who had stopped to help was caring for the man on the scene. Despite their best attempts, nothing could save a 59-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the spot.

Staffordshire Police have issued a call for witnesses. A force spokesman stated, “We are looking for witnesses following a deadly incident near Tamworth.

“We were called just after 7.45 a.m. on Sunday morning to reports of a single-vehicle collision involving an orange KTM motorbike on the B5493 Ashby Road near the intersection of Meadow Way and Arkall Avenue.

“Unfortunately, a 59-year-old guy sustained major head injuries and died at the site. The man’s family is being assisted by professional officers. We would like to contact with anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, or who has any information that could assist collision investigators.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 7.36 a.m. yesterday (Sunday) to Ashby Road, Tamworth, to reports of a motorcyclist who had fallen off his bike.

“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, which had a doctor and paramedic on board, responded to the site. When crews arrived, they discovered a man on a motorbike in critical condition, being cared for by off-duty medical personnel who had come to help.

“The team worked together to administer advanced life support but sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased on scene a short time later.”

Anyone with information can phone Staffordshire Police on 101 and reference incident 164 of July 28, or use Live Chat on the force’s website. You can also contact the collision investigators.
