Manchester United are prepared to pay £20 million for Sander Berge, but Burnley want £30m

According to the Sun, Manchester United would be willing to pay £20 million to acquire Burnley midfielder Sander Berge this summer.

After a deal for Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain proved difficult to close, the Red Devils identified the Norway international as a transfer target, and they have already held talks with his representatives.

After being relegated the previous season, Burnley is willing to let go of Berge; however, they will ask as much as £30 million for the 26-year-old and will not part with their holding midfielder for peanuts, even though he signed for £12 million from Sheffield United a year ago.

The Clarets star is thrilled about the prospect of signing a £100,000 per week contract with Man United, but the transfer cannot happen unless the Red Devils come close to meeting Burnley’s asking price.

Although Berge is not a very well-liked player, the Old Trafford team knows he has what it takes to strengthen their midfield because he is incredibly underrated.

The only player with a higher long pass accuracy last season than the Man United target was Rodri, of Manchester City.

In the Premier League in 2023–24, Berge completed 125 of his 154 long passes attempted, for an accuracy of 81%. Erik ten Hag, the manager, could use such a player in the middle of the park.

According to former Blades captain John Egan, Berge was instrumental in helping Sheffield United secure promotion to the Premier League last season. Berge is considered to be “one of the best players to ever play in this division.”

The midfielder could become one of the best in the Premier League if he lines up for a top team like Manchester United. The Red Devils will be hoping Burnley is prepared to play.

The 6′ 5in star, who has made an impression on Roy Keane, is ideal for the Red Devils, and he has what it takes to play for them because he scored highly last season in a number of metrics, including dribbles and pressured pass accuracy.
