At the junction of Broadway and Mission Avenue, a car struck a 58-year-old Escondido man, killing him on Tuesday morning. After then, the driver left the area.
At 6:09 a.m., the victim was crossing the roadway lawfully to the west when the collision happened. A car making a right turn onto Broadway headed north struck him.
According to a witness account and further inquiry, the car is an off-road white SUV, not green as was earlier stated, with a red “high lift” style jack attached to the back and a sizable spare tire. It was last observed going east on Lincoln Avenue and then north on Broadway.
Miguel Leonides Garcia, the victim, was brought to a nearby hospital and later declared dead.
We are asking anyone with information about the car or driver to give Traffic Investigator Pete McCollough a call at (760) 839-4930.
