Man dies after moped crash in Swindon

One week after being engaged in a moped crash in Swindon, a guy passed away in the hospital.

Early on Thursday, August 1, emergency personnel were sent to a collision on Butterworth Street between a parked automobile and a motorbike.

After being brought to a hospital in a life-threatening situation, a guy in his 50s passed away.

His cause of death has been officially listed as a medical episode that occurred before to the crash, as confirmed by emergency personnel.

His family has been notified.

Since Wiltshire Police spoke with the moped rider just before the collision, the agency has reported itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Since then, the IOPC has decided that no investigation was required, and Wiltshire Police has been given back control of the case.

The police have explained what took place. Lead Investigator T/DC Williams for Roads Policing stated: “First and foremost, I’m thinking of the man’s family during this terrible time.

Because the police had already made contact with the moped rider before to the collision, we complied with policy and submitted a mandated referral to the IOPC. We acknowledge the public’s concern regarding this occurrence.

It’s critical to define “police contact” in this context.

“In Park Lane, one of our marked Roads Policing vehicles noticed the moped and pursued it into Church Place. After then, the moped disappeared from view by turning right down a pedestrian entry into GWR Park.

Blue emergency lights were never turned on.

Following their vehicle to the Park Lane/Faringdon Road junction, officers stepped out to conduct a foot check of the park.

Sadly, we learnt of the moped’s involvement in an accident with a parked car on Butterworth Street a short while later from a bystander.

“Officers arrived at the scene, and a cordon was established to enable the provision of medical assistance and the completion of crash investigation.

“As per policy, the event was reported to the IOPC, which concluded that Wiltshire Police’s Serious crash inquiry Team could handle the crash inquiry.

“Our inquiry will be concluded after the cause of death of the man has been updated.

“Once more, I would like to express my sympathies to the victim’s family during this heartbreaking time.”
