Man died and another arrested following a terrifying collision

A person has died and a man has been detained following an accident on Upham Road in Swindon this evening.

We responded to a complaint of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Upham Road at the intersection with South View Avenue at around 5.40 p.m.

Unfortunately, the pedestrian, a man in his fifties, was pronounced dead on the site. His family has been informed and is being assisted by specially trained officials.

The vehicle’s driver, a 30-year-old guy, was detained. He has been brought into custody for questioning.

Upham Road remains closed while investigations are conducted.

Detective Superintendent Charlotte Tucker said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man died in a collision with a vehicle, and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

“I can assure the public that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway, and we have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area to provide reassurance to our communities while investigations continue.”
