Man charged with murder of 27-year-old woman in Dewsbury today

Police found Ms Alshara badly injured at 6.43pm on Sunday, but despite getting medical attention she couldn’t be saved.

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 27-year-old woman in West Yorkshire.

Wahib Albaradan, 35, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court over the death of his partner, named by police as Salam Alshara.

They had four children together, West Yorkshire Police said.

Officers found Ms Alshara badly injured at a property in Dearnley Street in the Ravensthorpe area of Dewsbury on Sunday evening and she died a short time later.

Albaradan indicated he would plead not guilty and was remanded in custody until another hearing on Thursday at Leeds Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Guy Shackleton said: “We are continuing our investigations into Salam’s murder and as part of those enquires, we would like to speak to anyone who knew them.

“Both parties, who were a couple, are thought to came to the UK in around 2020 and arrived in the Dewsbury area in 2021 with their four children.”

Police want anyone who knows the couple to contact them.

“We are conducting a number of enquiries to locate wider family and I would ask anyone who can assist those enquiries to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101,” said DI Shackleton.

Ms Alshara was found by police at 6.43pm on Sunday, but despite getting medical attention she couldn’t be saved.

Officers launched a manhunt and detained a suspect early on Monday morning. Witnesses described seeing a man covered in blood being arrested.

Footage showed a large police presence and an air ambulance near the scene.
