Perilous The Burslem resident Thomas Phillips, 48, kept a cache of kid’s underwear in his closet.

After being found guilty on three counts of attempted sexual communication with a child, attempted meeting a child after sexual grooming, and making indecent images of children, 48-year-old Thomas Phillips was given an eight-year prison sentence extension.

After attempting to set up a sexual encounter with a child, Thomas Phillips, a dangerous predator, was placed under citizen’s arrest. When he set up the meeting, the 48-year-old was not aware that he was speaking with a sham.

However, when he arrived at Kidsgrove Railway Station, a representative of the Children’s Voices and Predator Exposure groups met him. When police searched his home, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard, they found a bin bag full of children’s underwear.

Given his past history of child sex offenses, Phillips has now been classified as a dangerous offender and given an extended eight-year prison sentence. Prosecutor Thomas Sherrington stated that three fictitious Facebook profiles of girls in the ages of 13 and 14 were created by members of the organizations Children’s Voices and Predator Exposure.

Throughout October and November of last year, Phillips interacted with each of the profiles. “The decoys made it clear they were 13 or 14,” stated Mr. Sherrington. He proposed having sex with her eight-year-old sister and one who claimed to be thirteen. He asked to see photos of her panties.

“He tried to convince the other girl to come see him by asking for photos of her in her panties. He made plans for the first female to come see him.

The court was informed that on November 10, Phillips showed up at the station. Mr. Sherrington stated: “Children’s Voices members were waiting for him, but the girl wasn’t.” They used a citizen’s arrest to take him into custody.

“A mobile phone was discovered in his trouser pocket with messages requesting pictures of people in their underwear,” the police were notified.

After searching his house, police discovered a laptop stashed inside a kitchen cabinet. 1,327 category C pornographic pictures of kids were included in it.

Prior to his trial earlier in the year, Phillips, of Evans Street, Burslem, refuted all of the charges. However, the jury found him guilty of three counts of trying to have sex with a minor, meeting a minor after engaging in sexual grooming, and taking indecent pictures of minors. 2009 saw him convicted of sexually assaulting a child, according to the court.

As far as mitigation goes, Brian Williams said he could offer none. He continued by saying that Phillips described the prison environment as “woeful.”

The three-year extended license period and five years of custody make up the extended sentence. The parole board will not consider Phillips’ release until he has completed two thirds of the five years.

“You were convicted by the jury in spite of overwhelming evidence, and you continue to deny the offenses while pushing an equally absurd defense of probation,” Judge Michael Maher stated.

“You have a deep-rooted, enduring sexual attraction to kids. You have been the target of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) since 2009 due to your twenty years of sexual offenses against minors. You don’t seem to have been greatly affected by it.

“You thought you were chatting with young teenage girls on the internet. Actually, you were conversing with spies.

“You discussed having sex with her and her eight-year-old sister with one between November 4 and November 10. You tried to reassure her that her sister wasn’t ready to become pregnant

You asked her to meet you and bring pairs of underwear as part of your deviant fetish. Your closet was discovered to have a sizable bin bag filled with kid’s underwear.

“You said that you wanted to steal the virginity of another girl. You kept asking to see photos of her in her panties. “You pose a high risk of causing serious harm to children.” 1,327 category C indecent images of children were discovered on your computer, which you had hidden in your home’s kitchen, when you were arrested. I think you’re dangerous, and the public wouldn’t be adequately protected by a determined sentence.”

Phillips was put on the sex offenders’ register for life and given an indefinite SHPO. The court rendered a ruling that
