South Alabama came to the rescue to help New Mexico make their game against Auburn.
The New Mexico Lobos are set to take on the Auburn Tigers at 7:30 P.M. Eastern. At 0-2, the Lobos hope to get back in the win column in what is an enticing matchup against the Tigers.
However, head coach Bronco Mendenhall and his team ran into some problems on their way to Auburn, Alabama. The southern region of the U.S. is currently experiencing bad weather due to Hurricane Francine.
The New Mexico football team was reportedly stuck in Mobile, Alabama because the weather was too bad to fly in. Mendenhall and his team still needed to travel 250 miles. Thankfully, the South Alabama Jaguars came to the rescue.
New Mexico’s social media team revealed that South Alabama lent their team busses to the Lobos. Considering the Jaguars don’t play a game on Saturday and won’t play until Thursday, September 19, they were able to lend a helping hand to the Lobos.
Just a classy move from head coach Major Applewhite and the South Alabama football program. Without their help, the Lobos could very well still be in Mobile, Alabama and unable to make their game against the Tigers.
Now that they’re in Auburn, New Mexico can now focus on its Week 3 matchup. The Lobos have yet to win a game this season, as they’ve received losses from Montana State and Arizona.
New Mexico enters Saturday’s game as massive underdogs, as Auburn is a -26.5 favorite on FanDuel. It’ll be interesting to see how the Tigers play though, as Hugh Freeze and his team are coming off of a tough loss against the California Bears.
The Tigers officially made a change at quarterback after senior Payton Thorne threw four interceptions in Week 2. Redshirt freshman Hank Brown will officially lead the way for Auburn, making it his first career start in college football.
